The Semiahmoo Band Executive (BandEx) was formed this fall to empower students with their own learning and fund raising opportunities.
It is also an official student-led vehicle to promote community within the band program. BandEx is comprised of 22 AWESOME students representing all grades and bands.
The following is a list of some of the activities BandEx is working on. You can follow us on:
Students are researching on a regular basis to see where the pros are playing in town. Take a look at the calendar posted on the bulletin boards in the Large Band Room to see who is playing where over the upcoming months.
Students should always be checking out the bulletin boards in the Large Band Room to find out ways to volunteer to support THEIR band program (and it is a great way to make new friends with other students in the program).
The Listening Club is designed as a program to encourage students to collectively share and listen to music, to learn about musicians and to make friends with other people passionate about music. This is not another music course, it is a club and any student of Semiahmoo Secondary is welcome. Join our group on Facebook: Semiahmoo Listening Club to see updates on meetings and other important information.
Sunday, December 3rd, BandEx hosted its first weekly inter-school jam. These jams offer students a great opportunity to play music with other young people of all ages and abilities from all around the South Surrey peninsula. These are judgment free events; everyone is encouraged to participate, learn and have fun! Plus - food is provided!
Two to three house concerts will be scheduled throughout the school year. These events will be hosted in a family home, offering appetizers, dessert and beautiful music performed by small student combos from Semiahmoo Secondary. Guests will have an opportunity to mingle first and then will be invited to listen to music featuring students from our Band Program in a casual concert setting.
